Engineering educators generally agree that the important insights into theoretical material are gained through the solution of problems - the qualitative portions of the subject are easier understood once the quantitive aspects are mastered. This text adopts this approach by encouraging students to develop problem-solving skills while breaking the 'formula habit' wherein students merely solve problems by plugging in numbers.
