This book is the first full description of the most extraordinary concentration of prehistoric rock pictures of the New World. The authors believe that the Coso drawings demonstrate the development of a bighorn sheep cult that was based on hunting magic rituals and reached a greater ceremonial complexity than previously been known in the Great Basin. They present this theory with logical argument and detailed records supported by more than 130 drawings and photographs typical of the thousands of rock drawings to be found on the basalt cliffs of the astonishing canyons of the Coso Range.
