Il est vident que ces lments qui constituent le paratexte ne peuvent pas tre ngligs si le but d'un travail est une analyse complte d'un roman. Les autres critres de l'analyse dont fait l'objet, dans ce travail, le roman Paul et Virginie renvoient directement au texte principal : l'incipit, la description, les personnages et le statut du narrateur. Cette approche d'analyse d'un roman s'intresse moins l'intrigue en ellemme qu'aux lments techniques. Ce travail constitue une analyse des lments mentionns plus haut du roman Paul et Virginie, de Bernardin de SaintPierre : Ce roman, qui, comme on le verra en conclusion, peut tre vu comme reprsentant de son poque, la fin du 18e sicle a t publi en 1788 comme 4e volume de l'uvre tudes de la Nature . Pour rendre prsente l'esprit l'intrigue, ce travail prsente un bref rsum de l'intrigue suivi par l'analyse du paratexte. Le paratexte prend une place importante en ce qui concerne la rception initiale d'un roman et pour cette raison suit directement le rsum. Il donne des premires indications sur la nature du texte et influence beaucoup le lecteur dans sa dcision d'acheter un livre. Il joue un rle majeur dans la formation d'un horizon d'attente chez le lecteur envers le roman. Le titre, ses fonctions et ce qu'il symbolise, sera d'abord au centre de l'attention. Puis les fonctions de la prface seront dcrites. Les lments de l'analyse sont ordonns, dans le troisime chapitre, suivant l'ordre de la perception du paratexte par le lecteur : il lit le titre avant
