Hispania, May 1983 Product Description The Crackling Sun includes 100 poems translated from poems in all 13 books of the 1977 Spanish Nobel Prize winner Vicente Aleixandre whom the translator knew personally and consulted on several occasions. It also has a lengthy introduction of some 75 pages explaining the evolution of his several styles, particularly the surrealist mode. The book is presently in 139 libraries in the U.S. About the Author Vicente Aleixandre was born in Seville in 1898 and is one of the four main writers of the Spanish Generation of '27 along with his friend Garcia Lorca. He was the most important poet of that generation to stay in Spain and his books exercised an important influence over the following generations, often anticipating new poetic developments.
