This is the first printing of a new edition, revised and enlarged by W.T. Stearn. This new edition was published in association with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The chapter on the 20th century has been greatly extended with many new color plates added. This revised edition has twice as many color plates as the original edition. This volume is from the private collection of the late George H. Beatty, III. There is a long inscription to George Beatty from Marvin Runner on the blank front endpaper, dated January 1, 1995.
