The Physician Assistant Practice Guide - Second Edition: For Emergency Departments, Urgent Care Centers, and Family Practices

THIRD EDITION WITH NEW MATERIAL NOW AVAILABLE ON AMAZON AUGUST 2014 WHICH REPLACES THIS SECOND EDITION Over 140 concise, fast-reading practice guides for Physician Assistants working in family practice, urgent care and emergency medicine. Covers cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, toxicology, neurology, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, genitourinary disorders, electrolyte and acid/base disturbances, HEENT, trauma, pediatrics, geriatrics, gynecology, infectious disease, dermatology, hematology, psychiatric and social, environmental, medications, and disease management, among others. The book provides differential diagnosis and practice guidance in a bulleted outline format. This book has evidenced-based care and best practices and is a risk management tool. The author Donald Correll, M.D. is the Emergency Department Medical Director of Jackson-Madison County General Hospital (Tennessee), which treats 85,000 patients annually. From the AuthorMany years ago we hired our first physician assistant. He arrived with a 3-ring binder notebook with around an inch of pages that he made himself. He handed me the notebook and said, "You will need these Protocols; they are required by state law".Since that time, we have employed additional physician assistants for our emergency department. After several years, there occurred situations that the Protocols did not specifically address.I decided to purchase protocols or guidleines that were more comprehensive and acuity based. After searching for a book on Amazon and the internet for acute care protocols or guidelines, and contacting other groups, it became apparent that such comprehensive acute care protocols/guidelines did not exist that I could access. As medical director, I felt I needed to write protocols/guidelines for my department that would prevent adverse outcomes and improve patient care.At this time the practice guidelines are over 800 pages and the newer book with disease management is over 900 pages. My malpractice company, which is an outstanding company, has recognized the protocols as a risk management tool and included them in risk management seminars, and recommends them to providers when contacted.Best regards,Donald Correll MD
