From School Library JournalGrade 5-8-Although not much detail is known about Poe's life, Binns explains that the writer lost his parents at a young age, had a rocky relationship with his foster parents, and was described by a fellow student as being excitable & restless, at times wayward, melancholic & morose as a young man. Otfinoski discusses Stoker's early childhood, including the stories his mother told him while he recovered from chronic illness, his days in college, and influences of other writers. An entire chapter is devoted to the many presentations of Dracula both on stage and screen. Both books make excellent use of archival photos and reproductions, and extensive time lines provide historical connections and insights.
