Beneath the Dust of Time: A History of the Names of Peoples and Places
Beneath the Dust of Time' is an unconventional combination of history and the etymology of names. While there are countless studies of of ancient history, almost all of them ignore the origins of the peoples and places that determined the course of history. This book is different. It explains the origin and meaning of the names of peoples (Greeks, Germans, etc.), countries (e.g. Spain), continents (Europe, Africa), seas (Baltic), mountains (Alps, Pyrenees), rivers (Nile, Rhine, Danube), and cities (Rome, Babylon). These names are generally extremely old, and many of them can be traced back 3,000 years or more. About the Author Jacques R Pauwels, born in Belgium but a Canadian citizen, is both a historian and political scientist, and the author of several books and articles. His best known publication is 'The myth of the Good War: The USA in World War II' (also available in Dutch, French, German, Italian, and Spanish translations). He currently devotes most of his time to organizing cultural and educational tours to sites of significant historical importance all over the world, and has personally visited the vast majority of the hundreds of places mentioned in 'Beneath the Dust of Time'.
