The Glass Mermaid
Waking up at midnight on Christmas Eve, Becca, a little girl, sees two tiny people on the Christmas tree and travels with them to a fantasy worldFrom School Library JournalGrade 3-6 In this whirlwind fantasy, readers will feel as though they had been dropped into the middle of a Dungeons and Dragons game. Young Becca takes a midnight peek at the presents under the Christmas tree. She hears small voices and discovers two small people trying to make off with her favorite mermaid ornament. In less time than it takes to tell, she shrinks to their size, hops through a door in the trunk of the tree, and is soon in a contest with an evil sorceress. There are so many plot threads here that they are hard to keep up wtih. Suffice it to say that Clymer keeps the pace moving rapidly, but there's little else to catch one's imagination for all the fervid fantasy.
