Das Jubilum der Hessischen Verfassung am 11. Dezember 1986 bot der Lan desgruppe Hessen der 'Deutschen Vereinigung fr Politische Wissenschaft' den willkommenen Anla, zu einer Konferenz, 40 Jahre Hessische Verfassung 40 Jahre Politik in Hessen' vom 13. bis 14. November 1986 in die Gesamt hochschule/Universitt Kassel des Landes Hessen einzuladen. In Erinnerung an Wolfgang Abendroth, Arcadius R. L. Gurland und Eugen Kogon knpfte die Landesgruppe damit bewut wieder an jene Treffen hessischer Politologen an, die von ihren ehemaligen Mitgliedern und von deren Mitarbeitern an den Lehr sthlen in Darmstadt und Marburg in der ersten Hlfte der sechziger Jahre durchgefhrt wurden. Die Kasseler Konferenz, an der etwa 45 Kolleginnen und Kollegen teilnah men, bezog ber Vortrge und Spezialreferate auch die ffentlichkeit in die Fachdiskussionen ein. Ohne die Untersttzung seitens der Hessischen Landes regierung und der Gesamthochschule Kassel htte die Konferenz nicht in dieser Form stattfinden knnen. Den Kollegen in Kassel sind wir fr ihr organisatori sches Engagement zu besonderem Dank verpflichtet. Der vorliegende Band prsentiert die Referate in berarbeiteter Fassung. Die Herausgeber danken allen an der Veranstaltung Beteiligten und den Refe renten zustzlich fr ihre Geduld, mit der sie berarbeitungsvorschlge be rcksichtigt haben. Leider fehlt ein Beitrag von Franz Neumann ber die Ent wicklung des hessischen Parteisystems, den dieser wegen seiner Belastungen als Prsident der Gesamthochschule Kassel nicht ausarbeiten konnte.
