The healthcare system in Ghana is currently facing increased scrutiny as a result of several reports that reveal poor quality care in public facilities. The problem of poor service quality gets compounded under the National Health Insurance Scheme (HHIS) that has generated increased utilisation of health services. As enrolees of the NHIS demand quality care worth the value of the premium paid, there is the need to take steps to address shortfalls of service delivery in public hospitals to encourage many people to register with the scheme and utilise health services in times of illness. This study therefore evaluated the state of quality of care in selected public hospitals in the country and recommend measures within which service quality can be improved.
