Drawn from inscriptions and texts among the primary sources of Tibet, India, China and Central Asia, as well as a wealth of secondary sources through the ages and the authors personal experiences, this is a definitive survey of Tibetan history, religion and its rich, complex culture. In Snellgroves words, the book serves to keep in public view the clear historical right of the Tibetan people to self-determination. It contains a new preface and an obituary describing the life and career of Hugh Richardson (1905-2000), by co-author David Snellgrove.

I expected a better condition for a used book. The cover was scratched and some pages had marks, which made reading a bit distracting. The content itself is enlightening, but I wish it had been described more accurately before I purchased it.

Interesting but Somewhat Worn
I really enjoyed the content of this book, but I must say I was a bit disappointed by its used condition; several pages were dog-eared. Nonetheless, the depth of information about Tibetan culture and history is profound. Just be prepared for some signs of previous ownership!

Great Insight into Tibetan Culture
This book offers a detailed exploration of Tibet's rich history and cultural evolution. I found the anecdotes and historical references captivating, though it’s in used condition, so expect some wear on the pages. It’s a must-read if you’re interested in anthropology!
