A great revival was born at the base of Laestadius's pulpit in northern Sweden in the 1840s. Laestadius is often remembered for the unrelenting manner in which he exposed sin, and the bluntness of his repentance sermons startled his listeners. But that is only one side of the story. Equally powerful was his proclamation of the Gospel. The revival movement has had farreaching effects, continuing from generation to generation to bring people to repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The revival came to the United States with the early Finnish immigrants who established some of the first Finnish churches in America. This book gives a historical overview of the Laestadian Revival and its spread from Finland to America and beyond. It includes a collection of writings (most of which have been translated from Finnish into English) from various authors.
