The main purpose of this book is to enable birdwatchers in Ceylon to identify the 400 species which are to be seen in the Island, but the author has also provided a framework of general information on which to accumulate further knowledge. The differences between Ceylonese and Indian subspecies are usually slight and the book will thus also be found serviceable as a guide to most of the common birds of India.
