A History of Mississippi is the most comprehensive history of the State of Mississippi ever recorded. The fortythree chapters cover every aspect of Mississippis history from the earliest known time to the present. Each chapter was written by an outstanding Mississippi historian and in most cases represents a lifetime of study and research in the particular phase of history being written about. Dr. Richard Aubrey McLemore, Director of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, served as editor of this massive project. The financial support was provided by the State of Mississippi, the Mississippi Historical Society, the Department of Archives and History, the three universities of Mississippi, and the University and College Press of Mississippi.
