Many people take listening for granted. It is accepted that there are many different ways to approach study in the area. This work is based on a background of acoustic ecology, ecological acoustics, how these are both linked to one another computationally. It discusses a prototype built in Flash that conveys regional styles of Traditional Irish Music for a novel user to interact with in a way that involves simply moving a cursor slowly to hear various styles fade in and out of each other. Discussed also, is the difference in Traditional Irish Music styles and the reasoning for wishing to use these as a basis for the user to learn more about a culture. There are suggestions as to how these can be applied to a Music Technology area of development and it shows a proof of concept in the form of a prototype, the way in which the prototype was implemented is explained and also possible future work and developments as a result of this project are discussed. This should prove an interesting read for those interested in the area of exploring other cultures through a computational medium in the Music Technology area, and for building a basis for further research.
