Product Description While searching for a missing Indian teen, private investigators Phil and Yolanda uncover a corrupt operation involving multiple cases of arson, false reports to the Department of Homeland Security, and a sex slave ring. From Booklist In the aftermath of 9/11 in New York City, suspicion toward persons with different skin color and religions can turn to hatred. When this trend extends to reporting lawabiding citizens as suspected terrorists to the Department of Homeland Security and burning down their businesses, PI Phil Rodriquez wants justice. Excop Rodriquez (who calls himself a New Yorican, a secondgeneration New Yorker of Puerto Rican descent) follows the money and multiple murders with the help of a diverse handful of friends and associates: business partner Yolanda Aguierre, former and present NYPD cronies, and a lowlevel mobster. As the case becomes more personal, Rodriquez also pursues a Russian Mafia scheme involving sex slavery, discovered when he is contracted to assess security for a management firm. Firstpersonnarrator Rodriquez is especially likable for his fallibility, acceptance of assistance, and concern for fairness. Mickelburys brisk pacing and deft handling of multiple story lines make this a worthy successor to Two Graves Dug (2005), the series starter. Michele Leber
