Product Description In the early 1970s a special government program was created to help disadvantaged individuals succeed with their small businesses. Today the Small Business Administration's 8(a) business development program has helped many prosper in the world of small business. A Piece of the Pie profiles four success stories in the Washington, DC area and outlines the program's growing business opportunities and resources made available for the economically disadvantaged. Authors Peter Fretty and Shelton Rhodes bring an inspiring story of how dedicated entrepreneurs, through determination and perseverance, were able to successfully achieve their goal of running a business. The book also examines how the 8(a) program, and others like it, can give an economic boost to neighborhoods and communities by creating jobs that employ highly skilled individuals. About the Author Peter Fretty is a freelance journalist who has written for numerous business newspapers, industrial trade and consumer magazines, and technical association journals.Dr. Shelton Rhodes is a retired Army major. He currently works as a university professor where he is the Chair Person of the Department of Management, Marketing and Public Administration in the School of Business.
