Among The Papers Left By The Late H. J. R. Murray Was The Typeset Of A Short History Of Chess Which He Wrote In 1917. This Was Not An Abridgment Of The Standard Work He Had Published Some Years Earlier But A New And Original Brief History Of The Game From Its Beginnings Until 1866. It Has Been Brought Up To Date By Mr. B. Goulding Brown And Mr. Harry Golombek, Covering The Periods From 1866 To Almost The Present Including The Modern World Championships. Also Added To This Reprint Of The Original Work By Hjr Murray Is A Section By Sam Sloan Disagreeing With Some Of The Findings Of Hjr Murray And With The Claims By Murray That Ancient Indian Works In Sanskrit Contain References To Chess. According To Sam Sloan, Those Works In Sanskrit Contain No References To Chess. Rather There Are Even More Ancient Works In Chinese That Contain References To Various Games But Whether Those Games Were Similar To Or Related To Chess Is Not Known. It Must Also Be Noted That There Is Another Book By Henry A. Davidson With The Exact Same Title As This Book But That Other Book Is Completely Different And Has No Connection With This Book.
