Dieses Buch ist auf Anregung des SpringerVerlages entstanden und wendet sich gem dem allgemeinen Konzept der Kliniktaschenb cher an rzte in der Ausbildung und in der Praxis. Wenn ein so groes Gebiet wie die Gastroenterologie im Rahmen eines Taschenbuches abgehandelt werden soll, so ist eine strenge Auswahl des Dargestellten notwendig. Diese Auswahl ist natrlich subjektiv und wurde von mir getroffen in meiner Eigenschaft als praktizierender Gastroenterologe und Consiliarius fr gastrointesti nale Motilitt an der Medizinischen Klinik in Basel. Die Berechtigung ber Psychosomatik zu schreiben leite ich von meiner 7jhrigen Mit arbeit in einer Balintgruppe unter Leitung der Professoren R. Batte gay und F. Labhardt ab. Aus diesem Buche wird man, so hoffe ich, die Stimme meines Lehrers, Prof. Dr. H. J. Fahrlnder, heraushren, dem ich fr seinen Ansporn und seine wohlwollende Kritik sehr zu Dank verpflichtet bin. Ebenso hoffe ich, da man den Einflu der englischen gastroenterologischen Schule erkennen wird, der ich vor allem Dr. Francis Avery Jones und seinen Mitarbeitern so viel verdanke. Frau C.
