Mit dieser Verffentlichung werden erste Ergebnisse eines Forschungs projektes vorgestellt, das die Funktionsweise der parlamentarischrepr sentativen Demokratie zum Gegenstand hat. Das Erkenntnisinteresse richtet sich auf die Bedeutung des Deutschen Bundestages im gegenwrti gen Regierungs und Gesellschaftssystem der Bundesrepublik. Doch geht es darber hinaus um ein vertieftes Verstndnis einer auf dem Prinzip demokratischer Reprsentation beruhenden politischen Ordnung, die vor neuen Herausforderungen steht: Darunter zunehmende politische Mitwir kungsansprche aus der Bevlkerung, hhere Erwartungen an den Sozial staat und ein insgesamt verstrkter Entscheidungsdruck bei der Lsung neuartiger, langfristiger und zudem international verschrnkter Probleme. Gerade deshalb bedarf die komplizierte Ordnung einer Freiheit bewah renden und zugleich sozial verpflichteten reprsentativen Demokratie der stndigen engagiertkritischen Analyse und Interpretation. Dafr hat die deutsche und internationale ParlamentarismusForschung inzwischen vielfltige Erkenntnisse zutage gefrdert; die verfassungs und parla mentsrechtliche Forschung ebenso wie die politologische Institutionen analyse. Dagegen sind die politischsoziologischen Fragestellungen, zumal in Deutschland, noch wenig entwickelt. Diese richten sich nicht auf das Parlament als Institution, sondern auf seine "Akteure", die Abgeordneten; und sie betreffen nicht die rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen, sondern die tatschlichen Verhaltensweisen, politischen Vorstellungen und Hand lungsspielrume der Parlamentarier selbst. Es ist diese Perspektive der Politischen Soziologie, unter der die hier vorgestellten Untersucbungser gebnisse einen Beitrag zum Verstndnis der reprsentativen Demokratie leisten sollen.
