Many artists find the move into abstraction a difficult and uncertain one because they lack the proper guidance needed to take this bold step. In this inspirational workbook, awardwinning mixed media artist Claire Harrigan leads painters towards nonrepresentational painting through the use of color. Fantastically illustrated throughout and featuring sound technical advice, it covers every aspect of abstract painting, from concepts and influences, inspirations and starting points to approaching subjects, basic design considerations, and surface textures. Stepbystep analyses of Harrigans own work demonstrate the importance of color contrast, harmony, and impact in a range of mixed media.

This book on abstract painting is good, but I felt some sections were a bit shallow. The color techniques are interesting, yet I was hoping for more detailed examples or exercises. It’s a decent starter book, just not as comprehensive as I’d like.

Great Resource for Beginners!
I bought this book for my daughter who just started painting, and she loves it! The explanations of color techniques are clear, and the abstract style really caught her attention. She’s excited to try out the ideas presented. Perfect for beginners!

Disappointed with the Quality
I was really excited to dive into 'Abstract and Colour Techniques in Painting', but the print quality of the images is pretty poor. Some colors look different in the book than they do when I try them out. It's confusing and has made it harder to follow along.

A Must-Have for Aspiring Artists!
I recently picked up 'Abstract and Colour Techniques in Painting' and it’s been a fantastic addition to my art collection. The techniques detailed in this book are super helpful, especially for someone like me who's still learning the ropes. The color palettes and abstract methods are inspiring!
