Die mimische Magie grndet auf der Vorstellung, dass eine von Menschen ausgebte Handlung magisch vergrert wird und in der Natur bald selbst auftritt. Es handelt sich dabei um eine nicht kausale, oder mindestens eine nicht beweisbar kausale Verbindung zwischen Mensch und Natur. Diese logische Lcke ist der Punkt, wo sich der Unterschied zwischen Magie und Wissenschaft befindet. Wissenschaft arbeitet mit beweisbarer Kausalitt: eine Handlung A ist durch den Nachweis B mit dem Ergebnis C verbunden. Diese nachweisbare Verbindung ist fr den Magier berflssig. Die magische Beziehung zwischen Handlung A und Ergebnis C wird bei dem Auftreten von Ergebnis C besttigt. Eine wichtige Zwischenhilfe in dieser naiven Kausalitt sind die dmonischen oder die gttlichen Botschafter. Man knnte sagen, dass in diesem System das Ergebnis C schon an sich existiert, und es geht nur darum, durch das eigene Verhalten dieses Ergebnis zum Vorschein zu bringen. Die symbolischen Bewegungen (wie ein Tanz) oder die symbolischen Vermittler (wie eine Puppe oder ein Tier) verknpfen den Wunsch mit dem erwnschten Ergebnis.
