Acadie Then and Now: A Peoples History is an international collection of articles from 50 authors that chronicles the historical and contemporary realities of the Acadian and Cajun people worldwide. In 1605, French colonists settled Acadie (today Nova Scotia, Canada) and for the next 150 years developed a strong and unique Acadian culture. In 1755, the British conducted forced deportations of the Acadians rendering thousands homeless, and for the next 60 years these exiles migrated to seaports along the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, eventually settling in new lands. This tragic upheaval did not succeed in extinguishing the Acadians, but instead planted the seeds of many new Acadies, where today their fascinating culture still thrives. This collection includes 65 articles on the Acadians and Cajuns living today in the American states of Louisiana, Texas, and Maine, in the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Quebec, and in the French regions of Poitou, BelleIleenMer, and StPierre et Miquelon.

I picked up 'Then and Now: A People's History' by Acadie after visiting a local museum. It's packed with personal stories and deep insights about Acadian culture. Really brings the past to life! I loved how it connected historical events with the present day.

Very Informative but a Bit Dry
'Then and Now: A People's History' has a lot of valuable information about the Acadian experience, but I found it a little dry at times. It could have used more anecdotes to draw in the reader. Still worth a read if you're into history.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The stories are engaging, but I wanted more detailed accounts of certain events. Still, it's a decent overview of Acadian history, and the illustrations are nice. If you're looking for a quick read, this is okay.

Arrived Damaged, But Worth the Wait
This book arrived with a dent on the cover, which was disappointing. That said, once I dove into it, the content made up for the packaging issues. The history is rich and the writing style is captivating. Just wish it had come in better shape!
