Ed Hooks indispensable acting guidebook for animators has been fully updated and improved!
Hooks uses basic acting theory to explain everything from character movement and facial expressions to interaction and scene construction. Just as acting on film and on stage are very different disciplines, so is the use of acting theory in creating an animated character, scene or story. Acting for Animators is full of essential craft tips from an acting master.
New to this Routledge edition:
- scene-by-scene analyses of six films, including Up, Coraline and Kung Fu Panda
- an expanded chapter on video game animation
- all-new illustrations
- a 500 word history of acting

'Acting for Animators' is such a treasure for anyone in the animation field. The examples and exercises really made me rethink my approach to character acting. My only issue was the delivery took a bit longer than expected. Overall, I’m happy with my purchase!

Arrived damaged, disappointing experience
I was really excited to get 'Acting for Animators', but it came with a ripped cover and some pages were loose. I reached out for a return, but it’s been a hassle. The content does seem interesting, but I’m frustrated with the condition it arrived in.

Solid book, but a bit dog-eared
I really enjoyed the content of this book, but I was a bit disappointed with the condition it arrived in. There were some dog-eared pages and the cover was scuffed. Still, the tips inside are invaluable for anyone learning animation, so I’m keeping it!

Great resource for budding animators
I picked up this used copy of 'Acting for Animators' to help me with my character animation projects. The insights on body language and expression are super helpful! The book had some wear but nothing distracting, and it arrived on time. Definitely a must-have if you’re serious about animation.
