Untersucht werden die rechtlichen Mechanismen, die den Schutz bewirkten, die sozial und mentalittsgeschichtlichen Hintergrnde, die Rechtsfolgen einer Inanspruchnahme des Asyls und die Effizienz der daran anknpfenden Bestimmungen zum Schutz von Sklaven. Eigene Abschnitte behandeln den rmischen Umgang mit Tempelasylen in den griechischen Provinzen und die berlieferung vomasylum Romuli. Dabei erweist sich die in der Literatur oft vertretene Ansicht, da die Rmer das Asyl ablehnten, als mit den historischen Quellen nicht in Einklang stehend.About the AuthorDer Autor: Richard Gamauf, geboren 1964, studierte Rechtswissenschaften an der Universitt Wien (Mag.iur. 1988, Dr. iur. 1992). Nach Gerichtspraxis und Ttigkeit als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am sterreichischen Verfassungsgerichtshof arbeitet und unterrichtet er seit 1990 als Universittsassistent am Institut fr Rmisches Recht und Antike Rechtsgeschichte in Wien. Seine Publikationen beschftigen sich mit dem Rmischen Recht aus sozial, mentalitts und wissenschaftsgeschichtlicher Perspektive.
