Et d'autant plus tonnante que ces dbats ont trouv, au moins momentanment, un cho public audel de la sphre de la philosophie professionnelle, notamment dans ce qu'il est convenu d'appeler 'le monde de l'art'. De l croire en une renaissance de la doctrine esthtique ellemme conue comme une discipline philosophique fondatrice, il n'y a qu'un pas que certains philosophes se sont empresss de franchir. En s'attachant une analyse non prconue des faits esthtiques, les rflexions des annes 90 ont mis en pices les prsupposs essentiels de ce qui avait constitu jusque l le ciment unificateur de l'esthtique conue comme doctrine philosophique. De cette analyse il dcoule aussi que le jugement de got n'est ni le noyau ni le but de la relation esthtique, il en est simplement une consquence ventuelle. Si le jugement esthtique est la traduction objectivante de la relation apprciative, il ne saurait tre que subjectif, au sens d'individuel. Bref comme toute ralit humaine, le champ esthtique est de manire indissoluble un lieu de consensus et de dissenssion. Et cette tension qui le maintient vivant. L'objet de cet essai est de montrer le caractre illusoire d'une telle croyance ou mme d'un tel espoir.
