About the Author Vicki Carstens, the editor for 'Syntax and Language and Society,' has done research on the syntax and morphology of various NigerCongo languages including Swahili to the east and Yoruba to the west. Recently her work has appeared in the journals 'The Linguistic Review and Linguistic Inquiry.' she is currently an Assistant Professor of Linguistics at Cornell University. Frederick Parkinson, the editor for 'Phonology and Phonetics,' has conducted research on the phonological representation of vowel hieght crosslinguistically.
