Appropriate livelihoods is a great challenge for the visually challenged person and it is compounded if they belong to rural areas. Very little scope has been available for them in each aspects of life like environment friendly education system, appropriate vocational training etc. In India scopes of finding avenues of livelihoods for the disabled people is very limited. This is more so because approximately 70% of the total disabled population living in rural areas. This may be education, vocational training or any other socioeconomic arena; the challenges for the disable people especially for those from rural areas are multifaceted. At this out set an institution namely Tata Agriculture & Rural Training Centre for the Blind (TACEB) is constantly making efforts since 1960 to build the capacity of the blind people to take up agriculture and allied activities as their mainstay and also successfully resettled thousands blind people in different rural locations. This book would be a good reference for different development organisation those who are working with the blind people, vocational institutions who continue courses for the blind people and of course government departments.
