Public el libro Rockologa (1990, reeditado en 2012), colabor con los principales medios grficos de la Argentina y se desempe como guionista de documentales sobre rock argentino y el tango. Como escritor de ficcin ha publicado los libros de cuentos Los pjaros (1994, reeditado en 2003), La vida imposible (2002, Premio Libralire, reeditado en 2014) y Lo inolvidable (2010), los aforismos y miniprosas de Los pequeos espejos (2007) y las novelas Agua (1997), La mujer de Wakefield (1999, finalista del Premio Fmina), Todos los Funes (2005, finalista del Premio Herralde), La sombra del pgil (2008) y El pas imaginado (2011), por la que obtuvo, adems del prestigioso Premio Las Amricas, el Premio Emec. Como antlogo ha editado Nouvelles, antologa del nuevo cuento francs (2006), Galaxia Borges (con Edgardo Cozarinsky, 2007), Galaxia Flaubert (2008), Los cuentos ms breves del mundo. De Esopo a Kafka (2009), Historias encontradas (2010) y Fantasmas (2011), adems de haber traducido a autores como Nathaniel Hawthorne, Jacques Sternberg, Henry James, Jane Austen y Charles Dickens. Desde 2014 es integrante del OuLiPo.
