Dabei wird die Hypothese der berlegenheit eines dieser Produkte untersucht. Es stellt sich die Frage, ob es durch aktives Management mglich ist, eine hhere Performance, als bei passiven Investmentprodukten zu erzielen. Weiterhin wird geklrt, ob es nach der Theorie der effizienten Mrkte berhaupt mglich ist, dass ein aktiv gemanagtes Investmentprodukt besser abschneidet, als der Markt selbst. Dazu wird zunchst ein Vergleich auf Basis der bereits vorhandenen Literatur durchgefhrt, der geeignet ist, um smtliche Unterschiede zwischen aktivem und passivem Management darzustellen. Anschlieend wird eine empirische Analyse auf dem deutschen Kapitalmarkt durchgefhrt, in der die Renditen von aktiv gemanagten Fonds mit der Performance des Index dargestellt und verglichen werden. Die Daten bestehen aus 68 Aktienfonds von 31 verschiedenen Finanzinstituten und wurden fr die Jahre von 1998 bis 2008 erhoben. Der Vergleich umfasst die Zeitrume von einem, drei, fnf und zehn Jahren. Im Rahmen der Untersuchung finden sich deutliche Hinweise auf eine berlegenheit der Performance des Index, gegenber dem Durchschnitt aller Aktienfonds. Speziell im langfristigen Vergleich (10 Jahre), schneiden einzelne Fonds deutlich schlechter als der Index ab.
