Seine Aufsehen erregenden Fotografien, die die Menschen bewegen und ihn weltweit berhmt machen sind hierbei ein wichtiger Faktor, doch erschpft sich seine Arbeit damit noch lange nicht. Ein Leben lang kmpft er voller Begeisterung, berzeugung und mit viel Erfolg fr die Kunst. Als Verleger und Redakteur verschiedener Magazine sowie als Mitbegrnder einiger FotoClubs und Galerien erreicht er die ffentlichkeit und kann so die Kunstfotografie in Amerika bekannt machen. Seine Ttigkeiten als Kunstmzen in Amerika lassen sich anhand seines Lebenslaufes sehr gut betrachten. Anschlieend folgt das zweite Kapitel mit einer allgemeinen Beschreibung der beiden Kunstrichtungen, welche Stieglitz gefrdert hat. Der 'Piktorialismus', auch als 'Kunstfotografie' bekannt und die 'Straight Photography', welche in Deutschland auch die 'reine Fotografie' genannt wird. Um Stieglitz widersprchliches Werk, das sich an kaum eine Regel der beiden Stilrichtungen hlt, verstehen zu knnen, ist diese Einfhrung sehr wichtig. Das dritte Kapitel beschftigt sich mit Stieglitz' Lebenswerk. Um der Vielseitigkeit in seinen Werken und seinem Kunstverstndnis gerecht zu werden, ist sein Gesamtwerk in drei Abschnitte gegliedert: In die Zeit von 1883 bis 1900, sowie von 1900 bis 1920 und 1920 bis 1937.
