This is not a printondemand or facsimile copy but a hardcover book published with a dust jacket in 1996 by Scholars Press, Atlanta, Georgia. It includes 26 black and white photographs. The book recounts Atlanta's first resident professional musician, Alfredo Barili. He moved to the city in 1880 and established himself as a teacher at Mrs. Ballard's School and began introducing many standard works, including Ludwig Beethoven sonatas and later Charles Gounod's Messe solennelle de Sainte Cecile. Barili organized Atlanta's first music festival in the autumn of 1883. The author, N. Lee Orr, served on the faculty of Georgia State University and is the author of The Church Music For Pastors and Musicians, Dudley Buck and Music of the Gilded Age .
