La presente tesis aborda la elaboracin de algoritmos de deteccin distribuida en sistemas monosensor. Tradicionalmente, la deteccin distribuida se ha aplicado a la fusin de decisiones tomadas por sensores espacialmente dispersos. No obstante, puede ser de utilidad en la implementacin de detectores que tratan de explotar diferentes tipos de informacin sobre las diferencias existentes entre las dos hiptesis sobre las que decidir. El objetivo es sustituir un nico detector complejo, cuando no inabordable, por una combinacin de detectores ms sencillos, implementables a partir de la teora de deteccin ptima. Frente a la posibilidad de un enfoque general, se ha preferido focalizar la tesis en dos aplicaciones de especial inters para el Grupo de investigacin de Tratamiento de la Seal (GTS) del Instituto de Telecomunicaciones y Aplicaciones Multimedia (iTEAM) de la UPV, en cuyo seno se ha desarrollado esta tesis. Por un lado la deteccin precoz de incendios forestales a partir de seales infrarrojas y por otro lado, la deteccin de ecos ultrasnicos en ruido de fondo granular en ensayos no destructivos por ultrasonidos.
