Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, a.k.a Lewis Carroll, invented a special writing instrument he called 'the Nyctograph' on 24 September 1891, in frustration at the process of 'getting out of bed at 2 a.m. in a winter night, lighting a candle, and recording some happy thought which would probably be otherwise forgotten'. This edition of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' is written entirely in the author's unique nighttime alphabet.
