Product Description Der historische Versroman Willehalm Wolframs von Eschenbach, ein herausragendes Werk der deutschen mittelalterlichen Literatur, ist eine Bearbeitung des altfranzsischen Heldenepos Aliscans. Dieses liegt nur in stark abweichenden Fassungen vor, von welchen drei gedruckt und zwei ins Englische (in Versen) und ins Franzsische (in Prosa) bersetzt wurden, nie jedoch ins Deutsche. Die Ausgabe nach der Version M im venezianischen Codex Marcianus fr. VIII [252] (Holtus 1985) ist diejenige Druckfassung, die Wolframs Vorlage am nchsten steht. Allerdings ist diese Fassung stark 'zersungen' und von sprachlichen Eigenwilligkeiten und Fehlern des italienischen Schreibers der Handschrift verdorben, so dass sie nur mit Blick auf die gesamte berlieferung verstndlich wird. Auf dieser Basis wird nun erstmals versucht, eine zwar originalgetreue, aber lesbare deutsche bersetzung des franzsischen Heldenepos vorzulegen und damit ein bedeutendes Beispiel dieser Gattung deutschen Lesern zugnglich zu machen, vor allem aber Studierenden der Germanistik einen Vergleich des Willehalm mit seiner Vorlage zu ermglichen, einen Vergleich, aus dem die starke inhaltliche Abhngigkeit ebenso hervorgeht wie die vllig neue Form und Sinngebung durch Wolfram.
