Ludo Moritz Hartmann (18651924), sterreichischer Historiker, Sozialdemokrat und Sohn des Revolutionsdichters von 1848 Moritz Hartmann, widmete den Groteil seines Lebens der Demokratisierung des Zuganges zu wissenschaftlichem Wissen in Wien um 1900. Die Leitwerte "Freiheit, Gleichheit, Brderlichkeit", erhalten bei ihm pdagogische Handlungsdimensionen, die in der Hinwendung zu den gesellschaftlichen Randgruppen des monarchistischen Wien nachweisbar werden. Der Autor Gerold Unterhumer zeichnet anhand historischer Quellen ein Bild der Institutionalisierung von Erwachsenenbildung und rekonstruiert die demokratische Bildungsidee eines Initiators des Wiener Volkshochschulwesens. Hartmanns didaktisches Leitmotiv "Alles Lernen soll zum Denken fhren!" ist Ausdruck seiner berzeugung in die Kraft der Vernunft. Erwachsenenbildung als Hinfhrung zur eigenstndigen Urteilsbildung offenbart Lernen als emanzipatorischen Prozess. Seine Didaktik hat bis heute nichts von ihrer Aktualitt verloren.
