Wenn man heute nach einem Schlagwort suchte, mit dem sich die intellektuelle Debatte bestimmen liee, mte man von einer "querelle des modernes et des postmo dernes" sprechen. Dabei verluft dieser Streit nicht ber eine klar gezogene Frontlinie hinweg zu diffus sind im einzelnen die Assoziationen, die sich mit der "Moderne" oder der "Postmoderne" verbinden. Selbst wenn man zumindest was den philosophischen Dis kurs angeht, der sich unter diesem Titel entspannt mit "Vernunftkritik" das Thema be schreibt, das den Einsatz des Streits ausmacht, wird die Lage nicht viel klarer. Auf der einen Seite stehen dann jene, die die Einsicht in die Dialektik des neuzeitlichen Rationali sierungsprozesses auf den aufklrerischen Vernunftbegriff selbst abbilden und dann schlieen, da dieser dem Proze der Emanzipation, den er ermglichen sollte, tatschlich selbst im Wege stehe. Dieser Gedanke speist sich einerseits aus der Kritik eines im Medium von Rationalitt autonom und destruktiv gewordenen technischen Fortschritts wie der als Brokratisierung erscheinenden Rationalisierung der politischen Vermittlung der Gesellschaft und andererseits aus einem erkenntnistheoretischen und ethischen Skeptizis mus und Relativismus: Diese beiden Strnge werden dann zu einer Kritik der Vernunft als eines totalitren Mythos zusammengezogen. Auf der anderen Seite weisen dann jene, die das "Projekt der Moderne" verteidigen, darauf hin, da Kritik selbstverstndlich ein Mo ment der Selbstreflexion von Vernunft sei, da Aufklrung auch Aufklrung ber die Grenzen von Rationalitt beinhalte nur eben im Medium von rationaler Argumentation.
