Friedrich Lietzmann wurde in der preuischen Ostseefestung Kolberg geboren und machte bereits 1807 als Jugendlicher die Belagerung seiner Vaterstadt durch franzsische Truppen und deren Alliierte mit all seinem Schrecken und Grauen. Nach der Erhebung Preuens trat er 1813 als so genannter freiwilliger Jger in das Regiment der TotenkopfHusaren ein und machte mit diesem alle Gefechte, Kmpfe und Schlachten der Jahre 1813 in Deutschland und 1814 in den Niederlanden mit. Nach der Auflsung des freiwilligen JgerKorps aufgrund der ersten Abdankung des Franzosenkaisers, kehrte er wieder in das Privatleben zurck, aus dem er nach der erneuten Landung Napoleons in Sdfrankreich nunmehr als Offizier in das HusarenRegiment Blcher trat. Bei diesem stand er auch im so genannten Grenzdienst zur Zeit des polnischen Aufstandes bis zu seiner endgltigen Dienstentlassung aufgrund einer schweren Erkrankung im Jahre 1831.
