A psychologists stories of doctors who seek to help others but struggle to help themselvesFrom ER and M*A*S*H to Greys Anatomy and House, the medical drama endures for good reason: were fascinated by the people we must trust when we are most vulnerable. In Also Human, vocational psychologist Caroline Elton introduces us to some of the distressed physicians who have come to her for help: doctors who face psychological challenges that threaten to destroy their careers and lives, including an obstetrician grappling with his own homosexuality, a highachieving junior doctor who walks out of her first job within weeks of starting, and an oncology resident who faints when confronted with cancer patients. Entering a doctors office can be terrifying, sometimes for the doctor most of all. By examining the inner lives of these professionals, Also Human offers readers insight into, and empathy for, the very real struggles of those who hold power over life and death.

Unfortunately, 'The Inner Lives of Doctors' didn't resonate with me. I thought it would be more about day-to-day experiences, but it dives deep into emotional struggles that felt a bit too heavy-handed. Maybe it’s just not my style, but I was hoping for something lighter.

Compelling Read for Med Students
I picked up 'The Inner Lives of Doctors' and couldn't put it down! The insights into the emotional struggles of physicians are eye-opening. As a med student, this book gave me a real look at the human side of the profession, which is often overlooked. Definitely worth the read!

Interesting but a Bit Heavy
I enjoyed 'The Inner Lives of Doctors' but found some parts a bit dense. The stories are powerful, but I struggled with the writing style at times. Still, it’s a unique perspective that I think anyone interested in medicine could appreciate. Just be prepared for some heavy topics.
