Wer die historische Dimension mit einbezieht und das griechische Original betrachtet, steht vor dem Problem, dass auch und gerade 'alte' Textpartien mit jungen, metrisch erzwungenen Ionismen und Irregularitaten durchsetzt sind. Auf der Basis des Hexameters ist dieser Widerspruch nicht auflosbar. Es bleibt die Annahme, dass vorhomerische (Kurz)Epen und Balladen noch in einem alteren, 'aolischen' Versmass gedichtet wurden und, wenn sie in der Ilias verwendet sind, Zeichen spaterer Anpassung an den Hexameter aufweisen. Eine bereits verfugbare Hypothese wird nochmals dargestellt, zur Anwendungsreife gebracht und in einer Versuchsreihe an rund 580 Versen erprobt. Dabei achtet die Autorin auf Nachprufbarkeit und vertraut darauf, dass die zahlreichen, oft uberraschenden Ergebnisse fur sich sprechen.
