El presente trabajo es producto de una investigacin desarrollada con estudiantes del bachillerato de la Universidad Nacional Autnoma de Mxico. La importancia de esta obra consiste en conocer quines son los estudiantes de alto rendimiento acadmico; cmo han sido sus experiencias escolares, as como en qu ambientes familiares y sociales han interactuado. La autora afirma que el alto rendimiento no es un hecho aislado, propone rebasar los modelos tradicionales y reduccionistas que conciben al rendimiento como una capacidad individual y meramente intelectiva, postura que por lo general responsabiliza al estudiante de su aprovechamiento, perdiendo de vista el carcter social del proceso educativo. Con metodologa cuantitativa y cualitativa (cuestionario y entrevistas) identifica y describe la articulacin de factores personales, escolares y familiares que caracterizan a este pequeo sector de la poblacin estudiantil. En suma, propone explicar el rendimiento desde una perspectiva multifactorial.
