Los proyectos y polticas de desarrollo en sociedades diferentes, no siempre son efectivas dando lugar a que se presenten como acciones y no como procesos que permitan la apropiacin y revalorizacin de su forma de ver, entender y ocuparse de su mundo, y por tanto de lo ejecutado. Esta investigacin determin las representaciones y las prcticas relacionadas con la enfermedad de la malaria en una comunidad indgena y como estas favorecen o desfavorecen el desarrollo de acciones de: vigilancia, prevencin y control, generando condiciones de vulnerabilidad o de proteccin frente a la enfermedad y como se reconfiguran con la intervencin del Programa Regional DDT/GEF. Se identifica dos construcciones socioculturales del proceso de salud/ enfermedad/atencin, el del sistema biomdico y el indgena, dando lugar a que la primera se imponga a la otra, por sus relaciones de poder, de saber y de hacer, sin generar efectividad en intervenciones previas al programa. Este anlisis realizado permitir a los lectores, pero sobre todo a los diseadores y ejecutores de polticas pblicas, entender que el reconocimiento de la otredad, genera una real operativizacin de las polticas
