La Cuenca carbonfera de Puertollano es un yacimiento del cual se extrae actualmente carbn para la produccin de energa termoelctrica. Este se explota mediante la mina Emma, la cual cuenta con un modelo geolgico el cual requera de su ampliacin. Con este fin se realiz una campaa de sondeos con extraccin de ripios y ncleos, de los cuales se extrajo el anlisis litolgico y el estudio de sus propiedades fsicas, informacin utilizada para la correlacin de datos entre sondeos. Adicionalmente se interpretaron registros de pozos adquiridos en sondeos antiguos, cuya posicin coincida con el rea de estudio: se analizaron los parmetros de radioactividad natural y densidad, discriminando con gran exactitud la presencia de las capas de carbn. Haciendo uso de estas interpretaciones y tomando como base los buzamientos guas producto de las explotaciones subterrneas previas, se interpretaron las estructuras geolgicas y el comportamiento de las capas de inters en perfiles transversales. Este procedimiento permiti desarrollar la ampliacin del modelo geolgico y la cubicacin o cuantificacin de reservas de capa Primera, estrato de mayor importancia econmica de la cuenca.
