Between the years 1935 and 1941, the Farm Security Administration employed some of the most highly regarded American photographers, including Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange, to document a country whose people and institutions were in upheaval. This remarkable book makes use of the very best blackandwhite railroad photographs from this period, taken directly from the Library of Congress. Diverse images show everything from main line and branch railroading to electric operations. Intimate, humanistic photographs also portray the people who ran the trains and the people affected by them, hobos and children alike. Each photograph has been restored to perfection and appears with the photographer's original caption.
