India shares 17% of the world population, while its land is only 2.4% of the total geographical area of the world. Naturally, the pressure on the land is often beyond its carrying capacity. Therefore, the productive lands, especially the farmlands are in the constant process of various degrees of degradation and are fast turning into wastelands. Agriculture is the mainstay of Indias economy. Earlier researchers in the area not attempted on the evolution of this project in India. So the present study focusing an evaluation of integrated wasteland development project in Hassan district of Karnataka in India. The study is based on both primary and secondary data. Collected primary data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, namely Tabular and Graphical data analysis methods. Present study includes a micro level analysis of wasteland development in Karnataka. Redressing these lands is regarded as a powerful tool of attacking the issues of poverty and backwardness. The study indicate that wasteland development defiantly act as an instrument of rural development and agricultural development in India.
