In der landwirtschaftlichen Praxis erreichen die Milchkhe dagegen nur noch ein Alter von gut fnf Jahren. In den letzten Jahrzehnten schieden die Milchkhe aus gesundheitlichen und leistungsabhngig Grnden sogar immer frher aus den Betrieben aus. Dies fhrte in der Bevlkerung und insbesondere bei den Verbrauchern zu einem Vertrauensverlust in die moderne Milchviehhaltung. Eine geringe Nutzungsdauer der Khe belastet jedoch besonders die Rentabilitt der Milchviehbetriebe. Die Gesundheit und Lebensdauer der Milchkhe sind wichtige Einflussfaktoren auf die Wirtschaftlichkeit. Die Aufmerksamkeit der Landwirtschaft an einer Erhhung der Lebensdauer bzw. Nutzungsdauer der Khe ist in jngster Vergangenheit stark gestiegen. Auch in den gesamten deutschen wie internationalen Zuchtprogrammen ist die Notwendigkeit der Zucht auf Nutzungsdauer erkannt worden und scheint in den Zuchtprogrammen der neue Schlsselbegriff zu sein. Neben der Nutzungsdauer steht aber nach wie vor die Milchleistung der Khe im besonderen Interesse der Milchviehhalter. Die Milchleistung beeinflusst die Erlse und die Wirtschaftlichkeit der Milchviehhaltung unmittelbar. In der Beratung wird neuerdings der Begriff der Lebenseffektivitt verwendet. Die Lebenseffektivitt beschreibt die Milchleistung je Lebenstag und beinhaltet somit sowohl die Milchleistung als auch die Nutzungsdauer. In der vorliegenden Arbeit soll die Bedeutung und Situation der Nutzungsdauer und des neuen Parameters Lebenseffektivitt in Deutschland dargestellt werden. In einem Literaturteil werden Ursachen und Mglichkeiten zur Verbesserung der Nutzungsdauer und Lebenseffektivitt vorgestellt. Anschlieend werden anhand ein
