Ausgehend von den beiden italienischen Hafenstdten Ancona und Livorno wird in dieser Arbeit das Entstehen von urbanen Rumen im Zeitfluss der mentalen Landkarten untersucht. Es geht um chronologische Prozesse, geschaffen von Menschen, erkennbar in stdtischen Strukturen. In den Fokus werden politische Herrscher, die ihr Territorium nach bestimmten Leitlinien fhrten, und zugewanderte Kaufleute, die durch biographische Brche und Kontextvernderungen neue Herausforderungen suchten oder suchen mussten, genommen. Hndler zogen vor allem im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert zahlreich in erfolgsversprechende Hafenstdte im Mittelmeerraum. Diese Studie setzt hier an, um darzustellen, wer, wann, wie und warum in Ancona und Livorno leben wollte. Welche Gedanken trieben sie an, wie wurden sie angezogen? Die zentrale Fragestellung sucht nach den Richtungen der obrigkeitlichen und kaufmnnischen Antriebe, ihre rumliche Umgebung mitzugestalten. Wo trafen sie sich, wo zielten sie aneinander vorbei? Was resultierte aus den Auseinandersetzungen? Ancona und Livorno sind als immer wieder neu erfundene, stdtische Konzepte zu verstehen.
