This is a narrative of one teacher's experiences with storytelling, retelling, and writing in classrooms of boys 1116. The author tells the story of her teaching, using storytelling, in a secondary school for boys in Tottenham, North London. Each chapter contains at least one story she used, and often incorporates the responses of the students. The book contains examples both of retellings, and also of the boys' written renditions. The author explains her preparations and expectations, and weaves together the pattern of her own teaching philosophy. Her husband, wellknown language arts professor Harold Rosen, provides an epilogue.
