Andr Ruyters (18761952) est une figure bien oublie de la littrature europenne. Si l'on se souvient qu'il cofonda La Nouvelle Revue franaise, c'est peine si l'on sait encore qu'il fut aussi crivain. Pourtant, de 1895 1907, ce Bruxellois, entr en littrature dixneuf ans, a entrecrois ses oeuvres celles d'Andr Gide (18691951) pour donner naissance un riche dialogue littraire. Le prsent ouvrage tente d'en mettre en vidence la singularit et d'en comprendre l'volution, la lumire de la correspondance change entre les deux hommes. Par sa triple approche textuelle, biographique et psychologique, il cherche analyser le rle que Gide a jou dans la formation de Ruyters crivain, et dans le dveloppement de ses oeuvres. Cet essai se veut une contribution la connaissance d'un auteur quelque peu oubli appartenant une poque o la correspondance littraire tait particulirement riche et vivante, et de l'histoire de la littrature francophone de Belgique au tournant du XXme sicle.
